We talked about the Gevey SIM in our weekly iReview show on March 26 and told you that it brings a hardware solution for a carrier unlock on your iPhone 4. It apperas though that the Gevey SIM no longer works with the recently released Beta 2 of iOS 5.
This means that there are two options for you right now. You can either downgrade to iOS 4 or iOS 5 Beta 1 (which will reportedly only work until August) on one hand or you can use it locked on the other hand as the Beta 2 blocks the Gevey SIM unlock. Popular developer MuscleNerd notes that Cupertino’s blocking action could have been due to pressure from outside, probably carriers. But of course this is what drives the evolution of technology: the guys over at Gevey need to update their SIM too to bypass the future iOS 5, if Apple plans to stick with the blocking.
