Touch HD and Xperia Meet True (Mobile) High Definition (800x480) Videos With Hardware Acceleration
XDA Developers projection and tnyynt managed to put an end to the video playback debate surrounding the HTC Touch HD by developing a PC converter application called HTC Touch HD Video Converter - already at version 1.1, which would transform the videos thrown at it so that they take full advantage of the hardware acceleration and the powerful display of this device.
All you need to do is download the application to your PC, follow the instructions in the thread, select an Input file, choose the desired bitrates (500 kbps for Standard Definition and 750 kbps for High Definition) and push Start! It will automatically generate an optimized file for the HTC Touch HD that - after being transferred to device - would play back gorgeously on the device using HTC’s Album player or Windows Media Player, both bundled – no need for third party players. HTC Touch HD Video Converter can also handle batch encoding of several files queued for conversion.
Since the HTC Touch HD and the Sony Ericsson Xperia are so much alike hardware wise, the project has been expanded to embrace Xperia users, so they can benefit from this too.
Future releases will include the option to hardsub your videos, allowing you to use subtitles in your movie files as well as enhanced support. Maybe we will even see a multi device/resolution version?
