How to Pimp Out Spb Mobile Shell 3.0

Spb Mobile Shell 3.0 has been out for less than a week, and already, it's getting a lot of attention. We recently gave it our Editors' Choice award because we think it's a great way to totally change the way that you interact with your Windows Mobile touchscreen device.

The word on the street is that Spb is working on new widgets for Mobile Shell in a possible Widget Pack (we'd like to see stocks, Twitter, Facebook, photos, better weather, etc), but in the mean time, the guys at XDA have already begun applying registry tweaks and patches to make Mobile Shell shine. We'll go through our favorites after the jump!

1. Spruce up your weather icons (shown below, upper left). To do this, grab the ZIP file from this post. Extract those three files and drop them into the \Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell directory on your device. Reset.

2. Add the "big clock" as a widget to your Lifestyle screen (shown in the screenshot). This is only available on the Pro screen and (by default) isn't available as a widget. To do so, run this CAB for WVGA, this cab for VGA, and this cab for QVGA. Then reset, and the widget will be available.

3. Expand the number of customizable panels in the Lifestyle screen. By default, there are 3, but you can increase this number. This is sweet. Open registry editor and make the following change:

HKLM/Software/Spb Software House 2/SPB Mobile Shell/Widgets/Homescreen

Open "pagecount" and change the value to 4, 5, 6 or something else. Then reset.

4. Change a panel's name so that it says something different in the rotation.

HKLM/Software/Spb Software House 2/Spb Mobile Shell/NowScreen/Panels

Inside there are 12 keys (folders) numbered 0 to 11, with text values. Rename them to what you want.

5. Get new wallpapers for your lifestyle screen. Though you can really use any wallpaper (just transfer it to the the \Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell directory), Spb has put several really nice one up on their website
