How I Reduced My Junk Mail by 75%

This really only applies to people that use Exchange or other corporate email service. By default, you should be receiving good spam protection on your account from server-side filtering, but if not, there’s a good way to reduce your junk mail hugely by using Gmail. This trick has drastically reduced my level of spam with just a few minutes of set up.

First, make a free Gmail account. Then, tell your email administrator to forward your email to the Gmail account (and it’s quite possible that they won’t allow this because of security reasons). Then, log in to Gmail, go up to Settings, and go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Enter in your formal Exchange (or other corporate email) address (and this may be different than your actual email address, so check with your admin). Make sure it is set to “Keep Gmail’s copy in the inbox.” This allows for further spam control, plus keeps a backup of your email.

From now on, emails will land in Gmail where it will be filtered by their fantastic spam rules. If it’s not spam, it will be sent to your email address. If you still get spam, you can go back into your Gmail account and “mark as spam” to teach Google what to filter in the future.
