While many may argue that Android 2.0 may still not be ready for business, Google’s target of the consumer market has been hot, especially with Google Maps with Navigation packaged into the Motorola Droid‘s sleek body. Google’s turn by turn navigation solution, in its original form, has so far been made available for Android 2.0, but it looks like the good folks over at XDA-Developers have spent some time extracting it and making it available for the T-Mobile G1, the first device ever to run Android and a model that has captivated the hearts of geeks with its whimsical chin.

Google Maps with Navigation has been pegged as a revolutionary product by many as it brings features like voice guidance, turn by turn instructions with text-to-speech features where a robotic voice would tell you street names (example: turn left on Main Street) for free–features that were previously available for paid software or GPS systems. It combines itself effortless with the Google Voice Search feature where you can tap and hold the magnifying glass search button on the Droid and you can speak what you want to search or where you may want to navigate to. As such, you can state “Navigate to Starbucks” and it will find the nearest Starbucks locations in the area for you or search “Library in New York” and it will pull up relevant listings with navigation options.
