When Will The Verizon Omnia Get a ROM Update?

A lot of Verizon Omnia owners have been asking us when there will be a new ROM update. They see us playing with new ROMs that have been issued for the GSM version that add cool new widgets and additional programs.

Sadly, the Verizon Omnia won’t receive an update for a while. Why? The carriers don’t release a software update unless they have a highly compelling reason to do so. For example, if they need to fix a bug that, if not remedied, will cause thousands of Omnia users to return their device or angrily call the tech support line, they’ll make an update. As we’ve learned before, ROM updates, especially big ones, can cause operators millions of dollars and a lot of time. It’s a multi-party process that has many stages of testing and development.

That said, if you are savvy with Google, I’m sure you can find some forums that are cooking up ROMs for the Verizon Omnia. Of course, loading a cooked ROM to your device may render it unusable if you mess something up.

If that’s not an option for you, know that if Verizon is going to release an update to the Omnia, it’ll be posted on the Omnia’s support page. If you don’t feel like checking that page each day, you can keep it to pocketnow.com – we’ll keep you informed =D.
