Verizon Samsung Saga Hardware Tour

Here we have the Samsung Saga hardware tour from our own Neal Stublen, filmed completely in crisp HD.

Running with 256MB ROM/128MB RAM and a 400 MHz processor, the Samsung Saga is ready to meet your mobile device needs around the world with GSM and CDMA support. The Saga also supports WiFi and Bluetooth communications. A built-in GPS can be used with Verizon’s VZ Navigator application, though it should be opened up to third-party applications sometime during Q1 of this year.

Going around the device, we see a proprietary USB/charging port rather than a standard USB port for charging. A non-standard headphone jack along the top wouldn’t be too bad if the phone shipped with a set of headphones. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. An optical mouse is used for screen navigation, which may take some getting used to if you’re accustomed to using a D-pad, but it does provide an experience similar to using a PC mouse.

Battery life may be a bit short, lasting roughly 36-40 hours on a single charge with an active Exchange server configuration and light phone use. Using WiFi or Bluetooth services will likely shorten that time.

Overall, the Samsung Saga is a decent smartphone for business travelers going overseas. However, you’ll want to be sure you pack those proprietary charging cables.

Next up, we’ll cover the software of the Saga. You can also go back and check out our unboxing video if you missed it.
