The Verizon Droid Eris by HTC on top of a stack of smartphones, followed by the Apple iPhone, the Verizon Samsung Omnia, and the Verizon HTC Touch Diamond. The Verizon HTC Touch Diamond at the bottom is the thickest in the bunch and has the smallest screen.
The video below, is a hardware tour of the Verizon Droid Eris by HTC. The Droid Eris is currently shipped with Android 1.5, but should be getting an upgrade to version 2.1 (Google Navigation) in early 2010. Although the Droid Eris is smaller than the iPhone with a 3.2″ screen vs. a 3.5″ screen, the size difference does not impact usability. The Droid Eris’ beveled edges actually feel better in my hand than the rounded edges of the iPhone. The Droid Eris sports a Qualcomm 528MHZ MSM7600 processor with 512MB of ROM and 288MB of RAM. It comes with a 8GB Micro SD storage card, which can be upgraded to a 16GB card. On the down side it is a CDMA only device and does not have WorldPhone GSM functionality which means it will only run on Verizon type CDMA networks.
