The Treo 800w‘s GPS system is pretty nice. Not only is a custom mapping program integrated with both contacts and point-of-interest searching right in the Today screen, but the hardware is also quite advance and very quick at acquiring your position. The video below illustrates how the GPS works in a number of different programs.
Unfortunately, the GPS does not work very well in 3rd party programs like CoPilot Live 7 and TomTom 6. TomTom 7 wouldn’t even install for me, but that’s okay since it isn’t even released yet. Live Search on the other hand works very nicely, as does Google Maps, however Google maps can have some problems if you don’t have your phone radio turned on. It thinks there’s no internet even if WiFi is connected. I think Google Maps may have a conflict with accessing the Treo’s WiFi connection actually.
