Recently I picked up an AT&T 3G-capable Google Nexus One. After some time with the device I’ve performed some network speeds tests over AT&T’s HSDPA network with the free SpeedTest.net application, and I’ve clocked some fantastic speeds. I get around 3mbps down and 1.5mbps up, with the ocassional 3.5mbps down and 2mbps up. Fellow pocketnow Editor, Daniel Webster, who also has an AT&T 3G-capable Nexus One, is seeing speeds of 4mbps down and 2mbps. As a comparison, Sprint’s 4G network in Philadelphia provides speeds of about 6mbps on average. This makes for a fantastic mobile web experience, and if you’re tethering wirelessly with an app like Wireless Tether, you’ve got a blazing fast WiFi router in your pocket at all times. Perfect for your laptop, netbook, or iPad.
Typically when I run this test on a Windows Phone or iPhone, I max out around 1.5mbps down and about 800kbps up. And yeah, I know that many of you (especially in Europe and Asia) had speeds like this five years ago. But in my area, 3.5mbps on a mobile is blazing.
