This video from Engadget shows yet another new interface for Windows Mobile. This time, it’s called Smart Zone and it is completely flash-based, which is quite unique for an interface of this kind. It’s running on the Gigabyte S1200, which is a device with a WVGA screen (which seems to be all the rage this week) at 3.1″. Though it will ship with Windows Mobile 6.1, it will get a free upgrade to 6.5 like the Touch Diamond2 and Pro2.
The Smart Zone interface goes a long way to keep the user out of the blahness of Windows Mobile, though we’re not sure just how deep it goes (a smart converter and photo viewer is shown). The interface is heavily gesture-based and requires the user to swipe up, down, left, and right…to access various screens. Also, you can swipe diagonally to access additional programs. At the end of the day, your index finger may need a rest from so much swiping. Story spotted at wmpoweruser.
