According to reports from Engadget Mobile the Verizon Wireless XV6800, which is the direct competitor to the Sprint Mogul, can now be ordered online via chat and through tele-sales for $249 post-rebates and a two-year service agreement.
The unfortunate thing is that although the XV6800 comes with a pouch, it lacks a belt clip. It’s unfortunate that carriers are skimping on basic accessories these days. On AT&T/Cingular, I remember that my Wizard came with a pouch, my 8525 (Hermes) came with headphones, and the latest Tilt came without a pouch nor headphones.
It’s unclear whether or not the Verizon XV6800 is arriving with EVDO Rev. A high speed data access out of the box or just plain EVDO with a future upgrade. No word on whether the GPS is activated either, but even if it was activated, Verizon would probably limit the internal GPS to Verizon Navigator and not open it up to TeleNav or any other software. This was the case with Verizon’s BlackBerry 8830, whose GPS chip was locked to Verizon’s navigation software whereas the GSM BlackBerry 8800 had an open GPS for use with whatever compatible software there was, including Google Maps and Microsoft’s Live Search.
