LG GW550: Move Over, Jack! LG Clones Nokia E71 and Takes On Omnia PRO
File under: News
LG just unwrapped its LG GW550 Windows Phone, which runs on the non-touchscreen Windows Mobile Standard platform. The device looks like it borrowed some design cues from the
Nokia E71 (pictured second from the left in the link) down to the navigation buttons at the top of the keyboard to the way the keyboard is arranged with the Q, A, and Z keys linearly displayed in a vertical manner (most QWERTY keyboards place the Z key over one position to the right).
The smartphone has a front-facing QWERTY keyboard and was unveiled at CommunicAsia 2009. The 2.4-inch QVGA display is a non-touchscreen display and the device also includes support for stereo speakers, a 3-megapixel camera, support for 7.2 Mbps HSPA 3G data connectivity, and a 1300 mAh battery.
The device will have support for quad-band GSM and global 3G, though it may be hard pressed to find a spot on
AT&T's lineup--the carrier already carries the Windows Mobile Standard Omnia Pro B7320 worldwide. Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless will each get their own versions of another Windows Mobile Standard device with a similar form factor in the
HTC Snap so it may be unlikely that those carriers will offer the LG GW550 in the USA to avoid customer confusion; carriers typically don't offer similar devices with similar specifications in their lineup.
