HTC’s Warhawk and Fortress Can Do Video Calls?

We know, many or our European readers have had live two-way video calling capability for years, which is a pretty high-tech and handy feature to have. In the US, we can’t do video telephony because the networks here don’t support it. There are rumors that the new iPhone coming around in June may finally support this, but then again, that rumor was around prior to the iPhone 3G’s announcement back a year ago.

As we’ve seen recently, AT&T plans to release the Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 (known internally as the Warhawk and Fortress, respectively), within a couple of months. What seems a bit strange is that both devices are shown to have front facing video cameras, as Adam Lein points out.

Does this mean that AT&T’s network will soon allow for full duplex video calling, perhaps in conjunction with the new iPhone, or is this just an error in the rendering? It’s tough to say. Because it’s rare for leaked renderings of upcoming US devices to have front-facing cameras, it makes us think that perhaps this is not an error. Another possibility is that the front facing camera could be for Video Share, which is AT&T (rather silly) one-way live video streaming service (think Qik), but then again, why would you need two cameras for that (one on the front, one on the back)?
