HTC Touch Diamond2 in the House! Unboxing Video

The Touch Diamond2 (also know as the HTC Topaz) is the first in a wave of new higher-end Windows Mobile devices coming for 2009. It was first announced at Mobile World Congress, when we learned that it would be larger than the original Diamond, with a larger (and higher res screen), better battery life, and a new version of TouchFLO 3D that focuses on enhancing the way you connect with other people. We also learned that the Diamond2 would receive a free upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 when it becomes available.

In terms of specs, the Diamond2 is packing a Qualcomm 528MHz CPU with 512MB ROM and 288MB RAM. The screen is 3.2″ and maxed-out WVGA resolution. It also packs FM Radio, aGPS, WiFi, a 5.0MP rear camera with autofocus and a VGA from camera for video calls. Powering everything is a 1100mAh battery. See PDAdb.net for even more specs.

Early observations? We’ve posted about a dozen of them already in our Twitter (@pocketnowTweets), but as a recap: the screen sensitivity has been hugely increased from the Touch Pro and Diamond, the stylus is not magnetic, the build quality is terrific, and the diamond-faceting on the back is gone…in its place is a shiny black area.

Overall, the unboxing experience for the Diamond2 was underwhelming. If you have an unlocked Touch Pro or Diamond, you probably received the triangular-shaped box the displayed the device beautifully on the top. Not the case with the Diamond2.

This particular version is the European release, though it will work in the US over EDGE networks since it’s sold unlocked. Clove is shipping them worldwide right now for around $550.
