In this video, we take a tour of the hardware on the HTC S743, which is the US 3G version of the HTC S740.
Our enthusiasm for the S743 being a good one-handed device has faded a bit as we discover some usability issues: the call start/end keys, although more pronounced than the adjacent buttons, are very tiny, and sometimes a bit awkward to use. In addition, the numeric keypad buttons are totally flat, so dialing by feel and not sight may take some practice.
Beyond those two issues (and a microSD slot in a bad location), we’re pretty impressed by the hardware on the device. The back has a satisfying rubbery feel, and is adorned by a piece of brushed metal that surrounds the 3.2MP camera sensor (just like the Touch Pro).
The keyboard, which lacks the top numeric row that the Touch Pro has, is easily to use thanks to keys that are nice and wide.
Up next we’ll run through software on the S743. In case you missed it, check out the unboxing video.
