Cingular Palm Treo 750 Blog: Day 3
File under: News
1. Microsoft Voice Command. Lately, OEMs have been adding their own shoddy voice command programs into new devices. The king is still Microsoft Voice Command, now with official support for Bluetooth headsets, and the Treo 750 comes with this $40 piece of software. Great.
2. UMTS. This is the first Windows Mobile Treo with UTMS, and the speeds were great. In testing, I found the Treo 750 to be capable of speeds of around 800kbps down, as clocked by DSL report. Using Orb to stream a movie, I found the performance to be decent, though not quite as smooth as that on the Cingular 8525 over UMTS. Apparently the Treo 750 is upgradable to HSDPA via a patch (as posted by Mobility today), but HSDPA isn’t in many markets right now, and the patch isn’t approved by Cingular.
3. Keyboard. I typically use an HTC Star Trek as my primary phone (love the thin flip-phone form factor), which I consider a good email “reading” device, since it has no keyboard. The Treo 750, with its usable keyboard, achieves the title of a good email “writing” device. I find myself emailing a lot more from the Treo. Now only if they could combine the form factor of the Star Trek and the text entry capability of the Treo 750, we’d be in business.
