A User Review of the Acer Tempo X960 Surfaces

Of the four new devices to come from Acer, it looks like the X960 will be the first out the gate. It’s a device sporting a Samsung 533MHz CPU with 256MB ROM and 128MB RAM. The touchscreen is 2.8″ at VGA resolution, and the device is quite thin at about 13.7mm. In terms of specs, the X960 is similar to the HTC Touch Diamond. For more specs, check out PDAdb.net.

What is unique about the device is that the home screen has been designed to look 3D. Acer is calling it “Acer Shell 2.0″ and the idea is that the Shell will simulate a desktop where you can move around your calendar, calculator, and so on. If you swipe your finger, you can cycle between three different views of the desk. Looking out the window will show you the current weather, and looking at the wall clock shows you the time. Over at XDA, a user has posted an early review of the device. Though we’re not sold on the utility of having a 3D-like home screen, the reviewer seems to like it. He also contends that the X960 has a great size and is quite snappy in terms of performance.
