By now, the world knows about Samsung's plans to unveil the Galaxy S 2 on February 13 at Mobile World Congress. With reportedly a dual-core processor and Super AMOLED Plus display in its arsenal, the next generation Galaxy S will likely garner plenty of attention in a couple of weeks when it's formally announced. To play with our emotions, Samsung has released two short teasers that feature the S2 in multiple scenes. The kicker, unfortunately, is that they've censored the device with a magical, golden hue. We'll be at MWC to cover the event, so be sure to follow us on Twitter to stay ...

Watching what XDA does to new devices is like witnessing a car getting stripped and placed on concrete blocks in a bad part of town. They really don't move on until they've extracted every last usable bit. In this case, they've been dissecting the dual-core processor equipped LG Optimus 2X. We already hooked you up with a clock/weather widget, standard wallpapers, and ringtones from the device; well, now it's time for some Live Wallpapers. Ghost99k, from XDA, pulled four Live Wallpapers for use on other Android 2.2 (or higher) handsets. One of them simply animates with falling snow, while ...

We've posted numerous tweaks and add-ons for CHT 2.0, but today we're concentrating on some new and upcoming themes for the legendary HTC Sense mod on Windows Phone 6.5. All three themes, carefully crafted by XDA member Nordpolcamper, are Android-inspired and come with a mixed bag of skins for various parts of Sense. Sadly, only two of the themes are currently available, while a sneak peak of the third one, based on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, is shown above. The other two themes, "Gingerbread" and "Glacier," were recently released on XDA-developers. Their releases came shortly after they were ...

The clock & weather combo widget from the LG Optimus 2X Android-powered smartphone has been pulled from a system dump of the device, allowing other Android users to enable it on their daily drivers as well. As usual, the extracting comes by way of XDA, but there's quite an annoying limitation at the moment. Although the widget takes up only half the screen visually, the version out of XDA gobbles up all slots on the Home screen, leaving no room for other widgets or app shortcuts. Luckily, if you're using a customizable Home screen replacement, like LauncherPro or ADWLauncher, you're able ...

Motorola is now showcasing all that in a new promotional video that is sure to spur even more excitement. The clip takes us through a practical application of the nifty laptop dock (also $150), boasts about the handset's top attributes, before finally moving ...

ScoreMobile is arguably the most robust mobile app for staying up-to-date with sports scores and stats. It provides scores, box scores, schedules, fantasy stats, game previews/recaps, standings, news, programming info, articles, video, and betting odds for a multitude of sports. The app has been a standout for sports fans on both Android and iOS. Now, that trend could trickle over to Windows Phone 7, as Score Media has released yet another ScoreMobile app variant. Unlike the similarly designed apps for Android and iOS, ScoreMobile for Windows Phone 7 carries a unique design that stays true ...

Square Enix is well-known for their hit role-playing game franchises, like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts. In the mobile space, they've been publishing games for iOS devices for a while, but it looks like they're finally on-board with Android, as their first title appeared on the Android Market today. Crystal Defenders is a tower defense style strategy game comprised of characters and jobs from Final Fantasy Tactics A2. The game may sound familiar because it's actually been released on various platforms during the past couple of years, including iOS, Xbox 360 (XBLA), ...

There are a couple of launchers for Android out there that are designed to resemble Windows Phone 7, but they're still lacking in features and need further development. Also, most Android users probably aren't too eager to sacrifice their customizable, side-scrolling Android home screens simply to acquire a WP7 makeover with limitations. Enter "Motorola Defy 7," a new theme created originally for the Motorola Defy that also works with other Android devices. Instead of replacing your go-to launcher with a raw project, where its best feature is potential, the MD7 theme uses favorites like ...

The HTC HD2 has massive appeal these days for being able to boot various platforms with ease. Of course, when all the dust has settled, we imagine many users are rolling with either Windows Phone 7 or Android on their versatile HD2s. If you're finding it difficult to decide which OS to boot, why not opt for a dual-boot solution? Darrengladysz, from XDA-developers, has provided a lengthy tutorial on how to do just that. For starters, you will need an SD card adapter/reader and partition software. Also, two microSD cards are necessary - 8 and 16GB, for example. The former will enable you to ...

Weather Underground is a popular online source for worldwide weather information. Thanks to XDA member i_konst, Windows Phone 6.x users can now access that data through a handy application called Mwunderground. The app delivers current conditions, forecasts, and alerts by using data from Personal Weather Stations (PWS) and airport stations. The settings menu offers a variety of options and is designed with an HTC Sense style scheme. Head over to XDA-developers for the free download. Note: the latest version should work for most resolutions. Source: XDA-developers

Despite all the cool launchers available for Android, it still can't escape the inevitable onslaught of themes that mimic popular UIs of other platforms. In this case, Metro UI (beta) attempts its best Windows Phone 7 imitation as a launcher for Android. This is actually the second WP7 style launcher that we've seen in recent months, and we‘re pretty sure it won‘t be the last. As with the previously noted "Windows Phone Android," the early beta of Metro UI launcher includes the vertically scrolling WP7 Start screen, as well as the ability to customize the theme (light or dark) and accent ...

We've covered SPB Mobile Shell for Windows Phone 6.5 plenty of times, especially when it comes to customizing the popular UI with creative themes. With Windows Phone 7 gaining momentum with each passing day, we're kind of surprised to see very few Metro UI-like themes for Mobile Shell up to this point. Thankfully, MS 3.5.5 users, who are also fans of WP7, are in for a treat, as XDA member iseewon has released version 1.0 of his new theme. As the generic project name, "Windows Phone 7," suggests, the theme tries to reconstruct the new breed of Windows Phone for the last generation of ...

We recently took a look at SiMi Folder Widget for Android, but now there's a newer method of organizing apps and contacts on your Home screens. The latest "folder" widget, called CircleLauncher, takes a different approach by expanding your apps in a circular pattern while dimming the background. Tapping on the widget and gliding your finger across the shortcuts will invoke neat animated effects as well. Users can customize the widget type (apps or contacts), style (circle, horizontal or vertical lines), icon, label, and icon text size. The free version is perfectly functional, but has some ...

Android already allows us to create folders for grouping shortcuts out of the box, but it‘s always nice to have options. Hateman, from XDA, has developed a new folder widget for Android that offers an alternative method of organizing apps. Unlike the default folders, SiMi folder is compact and scrolls horizontally. It comes with six widget sizes, nine layouts, and allows users to link an unlimited number of apps to each folder. The folder icons, text color, text size, and background color can all be customized too. For now, you can only add apps, but the next update will include support ...
