The majority of Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 ads seem to be more humorous than anything else. While comedy is an effective tool in grabbing the viewers' attention, it's meaningless if it overshadows the product. Many of our readers have noted in the past how the previous spots are more like teasers, often showing just a single neat feature, which does little to promote the whole WP7 package. Well, this latest ad takes a different, more direct approach by showing as many software features as possible within 30 seconds. Check out the video, featuring the Samsung Focus, below. As always, let ...

While we probably won't see CoPilot Live or TomTom on Windows Phone 7 any time soon, there is a free navigation solution that recently popped up on the Marketplace. Although it's in a "demonstration" phase of development at the moment, A-to-B is a new app that features turn-by-turn routing, 3D/2D map views, the ability to save addresses as favorites, and more. The current version is geared for the US, but the next update will include support for Europe. Check out the feature-list and a demo of the upcoming features below, then head to the WP7 Marketplace to test it out for free. Early ...

After the CoPilot team revealed their disinterest in bringing their GPS navigation app to Windows Phone 7, another giant in the industry seems to be following the same path. According to French site MonSmartphone, TomTom doesn't have any immediate plans for a WP7 app either. "We have yet no information about it, so we are unable to tell you a release date or even if a future compatible product is expected," said a representative for TomTom. We've seen TomTom on Windows Phone 6.x in the past, so their reluctance to jump on-board with Microsoft's latest mobile offering is a bit puzzling, to ...

Angry Birds has already received several expansion packs on Android and iOS. The rising popularity of the franchise has also prompted Rovio Mobile and 20th Century Fox to join forces to create an animated feature film, called Rio, that's due to hit theaters this Spring. Now, it appears Rovio will be adding more depth to their hit game. In a recent chat with the good folks at Pocket-Lint, Rovio confirmed that a 3D version of Angry Birds is in the works. "We've built a lot of 3D games before, it's not like it's a lot of learning in order to recreate the technology with Angry Birds," said ...

Turn-by-turn GPS navigation apps have been quite scarce on Windows Phone 7 and its growing Marketplace. This, of course, is unfortunate because it's a handy feature to have on any smartphone platform. Unless you own a T-Mobile or AT&T branded Windows Phone, which come preloaded with TeleNav GPS or AT&T Navigator, you probably have turn-by-turn navigation on your wish list. Well, it looks like you can move CoPilot Live to the very bottom of that list, at least for the time being. At MWC 2011, WMPoweruser learned from a CoPilot representative that they currently don't have plans to create a ...

Last month, we showed you how to spruce up CHT 2.0 for HTC Sense on Windows Phone 6.5 with some sweet looking Android Gingerbread and Honeycomb themes. Well, now you can compliment those themes with matching skins for the standard Windows Phone lock screen, thanks to Wajk from XDA. The "HoneyLock 3.0" skin is shown above and "GingerLock 2.3" is posted below. If you're looking to switch up your lock screen graphics a bit, head over to XDA-developers and grab the proper CAB files and wallpapers (currently for WVGA only). Please keep in mind that these modifications are for the default 6.5 ...

With millions of unique visitors each month, Dailymotion is reportedly the second largest video sharing website in the world, trailing only YouTube for the top spot. Unfortunately, not everyone has been able to enjoy Dailymotion content on their smartphones up to this point. The lack of Flash support on Windows Phone 7 has prevented users from viewing embedded Dailymotion videos when browsing some of their favorite sites. Thankfully, there's now a solution to that setback with today's release of the official Dailymotion app for WP7. The app's beautifully designed interface allows users to ...

Looks like the official Twitter app for Android is due to get revamped soon, as EverythingAndroid has posted a quick preview of version 2.0. As you can see, the sky blue themed interface will be substituted with more conservative colors. A new menu bar, which we assume replaces the currently implemented main menu system, will be added to allow users to more conveniently switch between the timeline, @replies, direct messages, and so on. Also, when tweeting, the familiar options will be reorganized and placed at the bottom of the screen. The release date for the update is unknown, but we'll ...

If you grew up playing Super Nintendo, then you've probably spent more than a few hours playing the NBA Jam series. EA revived the classic arcade basketball franchise late last year by launching a new game for consoles (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii) with the intention of staying true to the original, but with updated graphics and rosters, of course. Naturally, the title generated tons of hype and gamers soon found themselves reliving past memories of flaming hoops, high-flying dunks, and shattered backboards. Well, now you can take that action with you on-the-go, as EA just released NBA Jam for the ...

The folks at PhotoFunia have released a trailer for their upcoming Windows Phone 7 app. If you're unfamiliar with PhotoFunia, it's a popular online photo editing tool that offers an assortment of neat effects for altering your images. After uploading a photo, it automatically identifies the face and then magically transforms it with the desired effect. For example, you can put yourself on a hundred dollar bill, the cover of a magazine, billboard, or even Mount Rushmore. If you're feeling somewhat silly, you can also turn yourself into the Iron Man, Santa Clause, or a Jedi Knight. The tool ...

SurfCube is a standout among third party web browsers for Windows Phone 7 because of its unique 3D effects. We went hands-on with the initial version when it launched back in December, and found it to be an interesting experience. Since then, users have been hoping to see support for tabbed browsing and a more responsive control scheme. It looks like the developer is attempting to comply with those wishes in the upcoming 2.0 update, which is due to hit the Marketplace this month. Check out the new joystick navigation option and tab features in the demo below. Will these additional features ...

CHT 2.0 for Windows Phone 6.5 has been receiving various graphical tune-ups lately via themes from XDA. Well, Dunc001 has put together a theme that not only brings forth fresh graphics, but also new widgets and links for the popular HTC Sense mod. According to the creator, Blue SK-i is not your typical theme, as it's actually meant to showcase the flexibility of CHT. To enhance the user experience, he added new widgets, quick links and free links; he also edited core CHT widgets, lua and mode9 scripts. If you dig the look and adjustments, head over to XDA-developers for the files. The ...

After adapting their popular Windows Phone 6.x alarm application for Android, the folks at Ageye have finally developed G-Alarm for Windows Phone 7. The original G-Alarm was one of the more successful apps out of XDA-developers, thanks to its robust alarm features for deep sleepers. For example, a couple of the options required users to complete math quizzes or navigate mazes using the accelerometer upon wake-up. Unfortunately, the WP7 edition of G-Alarm comes with limitations due to the lack of multitasking abilities on the platform. Meaning, it must be left running in order to properly ...

While iPhone and Android users are looking forward to the next version of the worldwide phenomenon that is Angry Birds, Windows Phone 7 fans are still left waiting for the original. Jabberworx, an indie WP7 game developer, couldn't hold out any longer, so he decided to create a similar physics-based game of his own, called Chicks'n'Vixens. He wanted to show that even with a small budget and few resources, he was able to create an Angry Birds-like title in a relatively short amount of time. Meaning, he thinks Rovio is slacking off. In his opinion, he believes they "should be able to do ...
