It works as a Soft Input Panel (SIP), also called input method, along with Keyboard, Letter Recognizer or Transcriber in Pocket PC devices. When I stepped up from my Visor Deluxe to a Dell Axim, mine went right off to eBay. What do you do (or plan to do) with your old PDA when you upgrade to a newer, faster model? Let's discuss!

Worlebird software has created a Star Trek: The Next Generation skin for the Pocket PC version of Windows Media Player. From the Worlebird web page: "This is just a little something we've been having fun with while we work. It's a skin for Windows Media Player for Pocket PC that looks like a tricorder from Star Trek: The Next Generation. We've seen a few programs that let you pretend your Pocket PC is a tricorder, but they don't actually DO anything. Now you can have your own tricorder, and it actually works! If you listen to music on your Pocket PC, and like Star Trek, this a must have!" ...

Why hasn't someone integrated a pedometer with a Pocket PC device yet? Or maybe not even the device, but how about combining a Pocket PC case with a pedometer in the bottom. Consider how many people walk around with a Pocket PC attached to their belts. It just seems like a natural progression to add a way to monitor how many steps you've walked. I'd even settle for a pedometer that would synch with my desktop. This isn't really a new idea. It has been done before, albeit in a somewhat different manner. Once upon a time consumers could purchase the "Step Keeper Pedometer Module for the ...

WHAT'S HOT    I think the phrase "It's like TiVo for internet radio" sums it up pretty well. With Replay Radio you can schedule any internet audio stream to be recorded on a regular or one-time-only basis, and converted into the highly portable, and Pocket PC-friendly, mp3 format. It is a great way to listen to internet radio shows and stations "on-the-go" while having the power to ZAP the commercials via your favorite Pocket PC media player. SETUP    It should be noted that Replay Radio is a desktop program, not a program for the Pocket PC. However, ...

Last week I received an email from Avantgo urging me to update my software. I thought this was odd since I didn't see a thing on their site about this. It seems that if you are subscribed to a channel that "requires AvantGo software to be set to a preference of 'Use Secure Connection' (SSL encryption enabled)" then "you will be prevented from synchronizing with the AvantGo servers." After updating, the properties page in ActiveSync said I had "Ver. 4.2 Build 1160." But on the Avantgo software download page (Login>My Account tab>Softtware downloads link) they are still calling it "AvantGo ...

WHAT'S HOT    Six different games - Hangman, Mastermind, Hexapawn, Concentration, Jumbled Words, Arabian Blocks - for one low price. SETUP    I found the setup process to be very frustrating. First of all, it should be noted that IM Games Pack requires Microsoft .NET framework to operate. In many cases, you would already have this component installed on your devices (as I did). The trouble appears when you begin installing IM Games Pack. For one thing, this is not an all-in-one installation. You are actually installing six different games that are bundled in one ...

It also offers an enlarged letter-only area for finger-based input. SETUP    Setup takes almost no time at all and no configuration whatsoever. Since it is an input method, you don't get to select the installation directory, but it does install a help file and images into your Windows directory. These files only take up 321 kb. PRODUCT FEATURES     Right from the start, ...

(sponsor) INTRODUCTION     From the day I finally discovered how to find "The Big Dipper" in the night sky, I've always been fascinated by the stars. Upon owning a Pocket PC, one of the first things I wanted to do was be able to find the constellations. Apparently I was not alone, because you can find several "Planetarium" software programs available for the Pocket PC. Yet you might just be surprised by how much more TheSky Pocket has to offer than simply pointing to Venus or Mars, read on to see what else this interesting piece of software can do. WHAT'S ...
