While new Android smartphones continue to roll out by the truckload, RIM’s BlackBerry lineup has been stagnating. Luckily, there are a bunch of new handsets on the way in the coming months to help revitalize the platform. We’ve seen some of these models pop up in a few of the leaked carrier roadmaps we’ve looked at, but the picture of who’s getting what, when, is far from complete. A recent interview with Verizon Chief Marketing Officer Marni Walden provides some more information on what the future holds for BlackBerrys, confirming the arrival of three new RIM devices with the carrier later this year.
Walden said, “RIM is still very, very important in the enterprise space. It does resonate in some of the consumer space as well, particularly with BBM. We’ll have three devices this year that we will bring to market with RIM. We’ll continue our partnership and it’ll be important for now going forward.”
Now, we don’t know for sure that all three of those will be smartphones, as the PlayBook could always rear its head. Still, we’re likely looking at at least two new BlackBerry smartphones making their way to the carrier. A keyword ad registered through Google suggests that Verizon will have the BlackBerry Bold 9930. What about the other one, though? Could Verizon get a CDMA version of the Torch 2? We may have to wait until closer to fall to find out for sure.
