There’s been a rumor floating around today suggesting that RIM is interested in having Samsung purchase the company. It sounded a little hard to believe, but we kept it in mind in case some more credible news came along in support of such an action. Well, it looks like even that was a wasted effort, as Samsung has now publicly responded to the rumors with a broad dismissal.
According to Samsung, not only has RIM not approached the company to gauge its interest in any such arrangement, but Samsung has not been considering a purchase on its own.
Samsung’s already spread quite thin, with interests in feature phones, Bada, Windows Phone, and Android. Rather than BlackBerry being an attractive category to add to that family, it seems like it might be more in Samsung’s interest to just wait for BlackBerry to fade away and scoop up the newly-exposed market with its other smartphone offerings. The way things are going for RIM, that might not be a long wait, at all.
