A couple hours ago, we learned of Google’s plans to rebrand the Android Market as Google Play, and the promotional deals it will be offering over the course of the next week to help celebrate the change. RIM doesn’t have any major news like Google Play to share with us, but that doesn’t mean the company isn’t just as interested in bringing its user base some killer deals. We’re not sure what the rhyme or reason is, but RIM is currently giving away seventeen otherwise-paid apps to some of its users.
How can you get your hands on the free apps? For the moment, it appears this promotion is strictly limited to users located in the United States. That’s not to say RIM won’t change the scope of this offer at some point, but for the moment it’s US-only. The other sticking point is that you need to be on a relatively modern BlackBerry handset; specifically, one running BlackBerry OS 7. If you’ve got those covered, you should be set.
You can check out just which apps are covered in this promotion by going to the App World and searching for the string “Compliments of BlackBerry”, which appears in the title of all apps that are part of this deal.
Popular titles that are a part of this bunch include racer Asphalt 6 and FPS Modern Combat 2. We don’t know how long these savings will last, so get them while you can.
