BBM is fantastic for keeping in touch with other BlackBerry users, but not everyone has their own RIM handset. While you have plenty of other options for reaching out with a message, whether that’s over e-mail or SMS, Facebook chat is the IM solution of choice for a certain segment of users. For now, the official BlackBerry Facebook client doesn’t offer chat support, but leaked pictures of what’s supposed to be the in-development 2.0 release suggest that it’s on its way.
While the current BlackBerry Facebook app hasn’t gotten the best reviews, this next release may help clean up some of the problem areas, with what looks like a new UI and rumors of better integration with the OS.
Supposedly, Research In Motion is aiming for a May release for the finalized version of Facebook 2.0. Users who have signed-up for the BlackBerry Beta Zone may be able to check the app out within a few weeks, as we’ve heard that a beta version will be made public sometime during March. Since there’s no charge to join, BlackBerry users should definitely consider checking it out.
