Since the fall of last year, we’ve heard about or had the opportunity to check out pictures of a number of supposed BlackBerry 10 smartphones. Now that the BB10 Dev Alpha handset has arrived, giving developers a head start on crafting software for the new platform, all those rumored handsets are starting to feel a lot more real; will we be seeing more of them over the coming months as we approach the BB10 launch? It turns out that the new developer’s phone might just give us a peek into what we can expect, revealing a list of possible BB10 device codenames.
A file on the Dev Alpha phones reveals the following models: Nevada, Winchester2 (LTE, HSPA+, and LTE/HSPA+), Colt, London, Blackforest, Nashville, and Naples.
While some models we’ve heard about, like the Milan, are absent from this list, there are a couple names we recognize. Colt was one of the first BB10 models we learned of, back when the platform was still BBX. The Dev Alpha handset itself is apparently what Colt eventually became. London featured in one of those early photo leaks, sporting a very unusual design for a RIM device.
Blackforest might be a ten-inch PlayBook, but recent rumors suggest RIM may not end up releasing a tablet that size, after all. There’s also speculation that the three Winchester2 models may reflect upcoming cellular-enabled seven-inch PlayBook models. As for the rest, we’ll have to keep looking in the coming months to see if any information on them surfaces.
