We will know better in a couple of days but, until then, sources indicate the new iPad 3 will be launched with the same prices as its predecessors. While rumors suggested a $70-80 price increase for the third incarnation of the iPad, more recent news shows Apple’s new tablet to come with a price range from $499 for 16GB Wi-Fi to $829 for 64GB Wi-Fi + 3G. The information could prove to be accurate, as Apple has a tradition of not raising prices too much from one generation to the other. The same source also debunks rumors concerning Apple’s intentions to move to an [...]
With the expected launch of the iPad 3 /or HD — rumored to be equipped with 4G LTE — on Wednesday, everybody seems to want a part of the huge buzz around Apple and its productsand Verizon is no stranger to that. A curious message was posted on Verizon’s web page recently, saying that “Something Is Coming”. Now, we all know that something will come soon and most of us agree it will be the next iPad but this doesn’t necessary mean that it will come to Verizon too. You might remember that the carrier got its iPhone quite late and the experience could [...]
More evidence, available recently, supports the idea that Apple will double iPad 3’s/HD’s RAM to 1GB. As the countdown for today’s event approaches the end, all bets are on.
We all remember the original iPad coming with 256 MB of RAM, and the iPad 2 featuring 512 MB the same amount as the iPhone 4. In a logical order, the next iPad should feature 1GB of RAM, as we actually do expect. An iOS hacker (you all know Chronic) seems to agree with this hypothesis after studying a debug output from an iPad development unit, believed to be the third generation of [...]
After having revolutionized the music industry, with iPod, Apple — on the eve of today’s iPad 3 announcement is now preparing to, maybe, make history again in yet another domain: retail catalogs. In fact, just yesterday, Apple added a new category to the iTunes Preview page in the App Store, called Catalogs’. While still empty, this should change today, following the launch of the third generation iPad. Given the huge amount of content users are purchasing from the iTunes Store, this seems to be a smart move and an improved high resolution display will certainly [...]
If today’s event confirms this rumor, it could be huge and will help Apple reconfirm itself once again in front of its competitors. In fact, sources suggest that a Finland-based company, called Senseg, will have their E-Sense technology featured on the new iPad. This system appears to give texture to a touchscreen, which is pure awesomeness, and will make the touchscreen feel rough, rigid or rounded, in certain areas, by using “tixels” generated by electric fields from elements embedded around the screen. Exciting as this rumor sounds, some questions emerge though: [...]
Recent rumors that need to be taken with caution say that the second generation of Amazon’s popular Kindle Fire will come not in one, but in two sizes, a 7-inch model and a 10-inch one previously believed to be a 8.9-inch tab –, and they will be launched in the second half of this year. No other details are available, but the Kindle Fire 2 is rumored to contain lower-priced internals. The same source also speculates that the shopping giant will shift their focus from E-book readers and concentrate instead on tablets. If confirmed, this should come as no, big, [...]
Following the launch, yesterday, of the new LTE-capable iPad 3rd generation, Apple also increased the over-the-air downloadlimit for the App Store to 50MB. Previously, download was limited to 20MB. This change, which is already active, has a lot to do with iPad’s high resolution Retina Display and is meant to help accommodate larger app size.
You should also note that this is valid for data connections too, and for anything beyond the 50MB limit, you will still have to use Wi-Fi connections. On the other hand, 50MB should be enough for most apps, music or videos, even [...]
Just hours after being released yesterday, in San Francisco, the new iPad is welcomed with a call for a ban in China. Proview, a Chinese company that claims to own the iPad trademark the legal dispute was recently taken to US Courts warned local vendors not to sell the new tablet, or else they’ll face legal actions. This is what they wrote: “Now we solemnly inform vendors and dealers (including e-distributorships) of Apple iPads (including the iPad 3) in China that they should immediately stop all infringing activities such as warehousing, transportation, mailing, [...]
Acer celebrates its partnership with the Olympic Movement by launching at the 2012 CeBIT in Hanover, Germany the Olympic Edition of its Iconia Tab A510 tablet. The tablet will be available in the UK in time for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The Iconia Tab A510 was first seen at CES this year and we also reported that it will be available in Europe this April, for 500 Euros, or roughly $650. This Olympic Games Edition runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, has the Olympic circles on the back and comes in black and silver colors.
The Iconia Tab A510 Olympic Edition comes [...]
With the third iPad not even being launched yet, rumors already talk about a new device from Apple, this time a “mini” iPad which we reported about yesterday — to be released by autumn. It seems that Cupertino is out shopping for 7.1-inch screen components with the unusual for them intention to aim directly at Amazon’s Kindle Fire, a successful device that sold six million units in Q4 last year and is expected to lower its prices this fall.
We think, however, that this is unlikely to happen at least not for these reasons and even the quoted [...]
While RIM is struggling to regain their (lost) place in the top, the philosophy of Canada’s favorite smartphones and tablets manufacturer also seems to change, as small joys are definitely preferable to no joy at all. In fact, RIM recently posted on their Twitter page that the BlackBerry PlayBook was the best selling tablet in Canada last week, both at BestBuy and Future Shop. No numbers though and nothing about the overall sales in Canada.
The news is good however, as the launch of Apple’s iPad 3 approaches and RIM needs to take its tablets to as many users as [...]
Just yesterday we reported that users in Taiwan were the first to get the official Ice Cream Sandwich refresh available on their Asus Transformer TF101 tablets. Starting today, users in North America (US and Canada) who own WiFi versions of this tablet will also receive an over-the-air notification, according to reports; in case it hasn’t reached your device yet, make sure to manually check for the update.
Other users (those who own a 3G flavor or international variants) will just need to wait a little bit more. While the loss of root privileges was expected, more recent [...]
A recent report suggests the search giant may release a 7-inch tablet later on this year, a device that would compete (size and price-wise) in the same class as Amazon’s Kindle Fire. Analysts at Display Search claim that Google’s potential tablet will feature a 7-inch display, 1280 x 800 resolution and should enter production in April, with 1.5 million planned for initial production. It is also expected that the tablet will run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and will be priced around $199.
Now, analysts have been proven wrong before but, given the fact that [...]
Hot on the heels of yesterday’s Padfone teaser Asus just released a new video in its efforts to try and build as much buzz as possible around the products it plans on unveiling at MWC. The 17-seconds long video hints “Twice the Detail, Twice the Fun” and tips a tablet with a higher resolution than before (or maybe a completely new tablet). Nothing is certain yet, but the Transformer Prime TF700T might be a possibility. This Android tablet was introduced at CES and improves the specs of the current Transformer Prime tablet with, among others, high-resolution display. [...]
The legal saga that for the last two years opposed Proview Electronics and Apple over the use of the “iPad” denomination has opened a new chapter, according to reports. Proview has filed a lawsuit against Apple, on February 17, at the Superior Court of the State of California. This lawsuit, which was previously unreported, claims that Apple committed fraud when a company, called IP Application Development Ltd., was set by one of Cupertino’s law firms to purchase the iPad trademark from Proview, in December 2009, for $55,000. Proview claims they were deceived by Apple, [...]
After introducing it at CES, Asus has (quietly) created a special landing page for the Eee Pad MeMo 171 on its website. Crossover between a tablet and a mobile phone, it comes with a MeMIC Bluetooth headset that allows users to place calls, read messages, and listen to music. However, this bundle option that makes the MeMo 171 quite unique among tablet computers — will vary depending on country. While it is ICS upgradable, this device now runs on Androit 3.2 Honeycomb. Other specifications include: 7-inch display, 1280 x 800 resolution, 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm 8260 processor, [...]
After a not so successful fourth quarter in 2011, when only 200k tablets were delivered to stores (not necessarily sold to users) and a net loss of about $80 million seen by the company, Motorola is trying hard to reach out to its customers and avoid having the Xoom “experience” again with the Xyboard tablets.
Motorola’s website now offers the 8.2 Xyboard with a free portfolio case ($39 otherwise) and a HD dock (usually at $49), for $399. In the same way, a similar deal is available for the larger 10.1 tablet for $499. The offer is available until February 29 [...]
The answer many Thrive owners were waiting for might have come via Twitter, as Toshiba USA confirms “targeting the end of Spring for ICS availability on the Thrive 10-inch”. Later updates also confirm the 7-inch Thrive to get the same treat. Currently, Toshiba’s Thrive tablets run on Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb and come with a 1 GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 8, 16 or 32GB of storage capacity, 1GB of RAM, two cameras, WiFi and Bluetooth.
Except for an official roll-out date, this is still good news for users, even if “the end of Spring” could [...]
As we reported two days ago, Barnes & Noble re-thought its Nook Tablet pricing policy. The company downgraded its tablet from 16GB to 8GB aiming directly at Amazon’s successful Kindle Fire. The launch also comes after the company announced a drop in its quarterly net income. The new tablet will be sold at $199, which is $50 less than the 16GB variant (but matches the Kindle Fire’s price). Unlike its direct competitor, the Nook also sports a microSD card slot in order to compensate for the recent loss of storage capacity.
On the other hand, B&N didn’t [...]
February 21 was a busy day for RIM and PlayBook owners alike. Shortly after the release of the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, bloggers will be glad to find out that the official WordPress App for PlayBook is also available for download on BlackBerry AppWorld.
This app allows you to write posts, edit pages, and manage comments on the go. Both WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress (2.9.2 or higher) sites are supported. The application features similar capabilities with those you can find in the WordPress for BlackBerry smartphones, but with a much better resolution, to take [...]
Although no official announcement has been made yet, sources suggest that ViewSonic is preparing to launch a new 7-inch Android tablet next week in Barcelona. The device is called ViewPad G70, and it has a MSRP price of $350, but we might see it in the end being available for around $300. The ViewPad G70 will run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and will feature two cameras, 1024 x 600 high-resolution screen, 3G-capable radio, 4GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM and a microSD card slot.
There’s no info yet regarding the included processor’s specs. This should also [...]
Latest rumors and reports have equally failed to clarify details of the upcoming Amazon tablet, to be launched in the coming months. While most people seem to understand that we should expect the Kindle Fire 2, opinions differ when it comes to the size of this future device. Recent news talk about Amazon preparing an 8.9-inch Kindle as a follow-up to the Kindle Fire; however, today’s rumors would rather agree on a future 10-inch tablet. If reports turn out to be true, Amazon will compete directly with Apple’s iPad, at least in the size department (as Amazon’s main [...]
It didn’t happen on the 17th, as rumored, but today is the day when RIM finally decided to release the long awaited BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0. It is now available for download and comes with lots of goodies, such as native email, calendar and contacts sync, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn integration, that might be just the things whose absence kept people away before (and owners waiting patiently for the refresh). It also welcomes an updated BlackBerry Bridge app that provides Bluetooth connection between the BlackBerry PlayBook and the BlackBerry Smartphone. “Thousands [...]
