If I’ve been a little MIA lately, its because I started a new job and my wife is almost 8 months pregnant. I apologize for taking a hike. I’ll be around as much as I can; but can’t make a lot of promises.
I noticed this interesting article over at Thoughts and really wanted to point it out. Jon Westfall has written an interesting article on managing your inbox. If you’re like me, you get literally, hundreds of messages a day. My BlackJack is constantly going off telling me I’ve got a piece of mail from someone at the office, or in one of the other 2 [...]
One of the biggest holes in the iPhone right now is the lack of support for corporate e-mail. I know there are a lot of execs/corporate types out there that are going to chase after this phone in the next few weeks; and without the ability to get work e-mail, carrying the iPhone is going to be a problem for them.
“Visto Announces Secure Corporate Email for Apple iPhoneiPhone Can Now Support Corporate Users on Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino

I noticed this over at PPC Thoughts, posted by our good friend Darius Wey. If you’re a Glofiish X500 or M700 owner, head over to E-TEN’s web site and grab your free Windows Mobile 6 upgrade. The upgrade is available in English, French, Russian, German, or Chinese. You’ll need to register your device, if you haven’t done so already. Upon registration, you’ll receive an action key, which is needed to successfully install the upgrade.
I tried to upgrade my M700, and I keep getting a strange error message from the site saying that the version [...]
No.. Not a Black Tie edition case; but another Vaja work of art, just the same. I got word from Vaja today that they have released custom cases for the Blackberry Pearl. Vaja has released two cases, the Balance and the Classic Pouch. The pouch is a horizontal case that sits on your belt, the Balance is chock full of all the goodies we’ve come to expect from Vaja. Here’s the low-down on the Vaja Balance for the Blackberry Pearl:
Balance features– Access to main functions– Screen protector– Stainless mesh speaker protector– Push To [...]
Like many people, I am organized. That’s one of the reasons why I use a mobile device. I want my calendar, contacts, to-do’s with me while I’m going during the day so I can stay on top of things. I’m VERY good at what I do, and staying on top of my game is important to me (even if I do say so myself… :P)
I installed one of the DST 2007 updates on my devices weeks ago, and woke up this morning after the time change to a device who’s time had NOT changed. Needless to say, I was very disappointed, and rather concerned. So, let’s cut to [...]
I love Vaja Cases. They have really got some nice stuff; and I wish I could get one for my Treo 750. However, there is that Vaja price…
If you’ve got a Cingular Blackjack, and the coin, then you might want to check out Vaja’s latest release, the Vaja Balance for the Blackjack. It really is a nice case; and it has the following features:
Balance features– Access to main functions– Screen protector– Stainless mesh speaker protector– Side wheel cutout– Camera cutout– Access to volume keys– Access to [...]
Recently I reviewed the new glofiish M700. As you’ll see in the review, the device is nice, but not the home run hitter that I was hoping it would be. I saw on Pocket PC Thoughts that E-TEN is going to be releasing a WM6 Professional device that supports 3G. It will also pack WiFi, GPS, and a 400Mhz Samsung processor.
Ever since E-TEN’s glowfiish M700 arrived about ten days ago, I’ve been bouncing around the house, humming that slightly modified lyric line in my head. I can’t seem to stop. Weird… I know. But hey…what’s a guy to do? I’ve had a couple different E-TEN Pocket PC Phones. My first experience, with the M500 was rather disappointing. You can see my New Equipment Blogs with the M500 here: [...]
If you like free stuff, and who doesn’t, then you need to head over to Gear Diary and check out their latest contest.
Judie has got a boat load of stuff, 22 different items, including an i-mate JAQ3, that’s supposed to have its review on Gear Diary posted on or around March 5, 2007. So if you’d like to win something new and cool. Head on over and check out Judie’s stuff!
The latest version of ActiveSync, version 4.5, has (finally) been released. For those of us still running XP or earlier, this is a welcomed update. I’ve been using 4.5 Beta 2 for a long time, and it has been fairly solid for me. If you’re not a Vista user, then you need to check this out. You can download the software from the link shown in this announcement.
UPDATE: I just noticed that after I installed the released version of AS 4.5, that it didn’t upgrade the beta version that I had, but completely wiped it and all of the partnership info that I had [...]
I recently received ETEN’s new Glowfiish M700 Pocket PC Phone directly from the ETEN in Tiawan. First, I want to thank ETEN for sending me the device to review. They are an awesome company.
I got the device yesterday, so I’ve only had it up and running for less than 24 hours. However, the device is kinda cool. Picture a K-JAM with a larger keyboard, WiFi and GPS Receiver.
I’ll be reviewing the device for pocketnow.com, so look for the full blown review in about a week or so. In the mean time, check back between now and then for some New Equipment Blog [...]
Many of you know that Brandon and I contribute over at Gear Diary. Judie also contributes here at pocketnow.com when time permits. I just wanted to let everyone know that if Gear Diary appears down, it’s really not.
Late yesterday some routine site maintenance required a DNS refresh, and that refresh either is not complete, OR hasn’t started. If you use COX or Comcast… you may be out of luck. I haven’t been able to get there all day, and neither has Judie, and she is fit to be tied.
So…no, Gear Diary didn’t go the way of the Dodo, [...]

In what I’m certain is the, “well, its about time”-iest news item I’ve seen during the Holiday Season, Microsoft announced today that it has released a Zune firmware update that adds Vista compatibility to its digital music player.
The update is available at the Zune website, for those interested and/or running both Vista and a Zune on their PC’s.
This year, Christmas came a little early for me. I’ve been saying it for about a year. I picked up a Mac Book Pro, and I’m in the process of figuring out how to get Windows on it now.
Doing that isn’t as simple or as easy as downloading Boot Camp. There are a few hidden gotchas that I didn’t know about.
1. Mac OSX takes up about 27GB of space, leaving 93GB available on a 120GB drive.
2. Boot Camp requires XP SP2 or later. You can’t install an earlier version and then upgrade to SP2, you have to start at SP2. (This is the [...]
I would like to take a few moments to wish all of our US readers the happiest of Thanksgiving’s from everyone here at pocketnow.com.
Personally, I’m thankful for the site, my family, new house and new job. What are you thankful for this year? Why don’t you join in the discussion and let everyone know?
My good friend Judie over at Gear Diary took a whole page to say thank you to everyone that touched her life…
I’m very pleased with iNav iGuidance 3.01. It works very well on the Pocket PC based GPS equipment I have. I like it on my iPAQ 6515 for a couple of reasons. First and foremost because it works with the device’s square screen. If you missed yesterday’s blog entry on iGuidance 3.01 and square screens, click the Day 2 link, below, and give it a quick read. I also like it because its got my new house address on it. Now I can get around town here in Chicago, and always find my way right back to my door. Sweet!
The biggest “problem” I’ve got [...]
One of the reasons why I moved to the iPAQ 6515 was its built in GPS receiver. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times: I can get lost inside a wet paper bag and can’t find my way out with a fork and a flashlight. It’s pathetic… I know; but whaddya gonna do. Right: buy a GPS reciever! Case in point… I wanted a truly converged device. More is less in this case. One device, more functionality and features…less to carry.
When I got my 6515, it was all about evaluating Cingular’s Refurbished Equipment Purchase Program. [...]
My good buddy, Tim Adams, pocketnow.com Sr. Editor Extrodinaire, recently wrote a great Short Take review on iNav iGuidance v3.01. If you haven’t seen the review, you need to do yourself a favor and check it out.
As a Short Take, it doesn’t take very long to read. As mentioned in the review, I’ve been using the software on my iPAQ 6515 to evaluate its performance on that device, and especially with a square screen. There aren’t a lot of GPS apps out there in my opinion that handle 240×240 square screens well.
Check back in the next day or [...]

If there’s one thing that I hate in life, its moving. We’re in the middle of it right now, and I’m writing this from my laptop, without the benefit of desktop monitor, keyboard, mouse or any other stationary gear. I’m stepping over and through boxes, things that need to be put in boxes, etc.
If I can, I’ll post again before we go, but it may not be from the laptop or anything even remotely PC-ish.
(Sheesh! My desk hasn’t been this clean since the day I bought it…)
In my mind, 2006 is going to be the year that Hell froze over because Palm finally released a Windows Mobile powered handheld. The 700w was released on Verizon in early January of 2006. I was lucky enough to be allowed to review the device here. You may also recall that I had a number of different issues with the device and wrote follow-up articles on the experience with it here and here. Keep these articles close, because we’ll want to [...]
Our friends at Vaja have released a new case line for the Samsung Helix and the Toshiba Gigabeat. The case line, called Balance, combines the classic lines of Vaja’s i-Volution with their Classic cases to create a brand new look! Since the Balance line fits the Gigabeat, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a case in this line for the Zune. The cases look awesome. Vaja’s original announcement is below.
Vaja’s newest brainchild, is the result of R&D Department’s constant innovation which reflects the company’s unstoppable desire to satisfy the [...]
