There are probably just as many detractors out there as there are fans of the Samsung Galaxy Note, which with its oversized 5.3-inch display falls into that five-to-seven-inch gray area between smartphones and tablets. A lot of people just can’t handle the idea of gadgets that size, and alternately call the Note too large or too small for any kind of serious use. For those among us who really dig hardware at this scale, we’ve got some good news, as ZTE has recently revealed plans to release two such models in this size range.

For the moment, all we really know about these models is that ZTE intends to have them in stores before the end of the year. We could easily be looking at higher-end specs by the time these new devices arrive, complete with quad-core processors, but based on currently-available ZTE models for comparison, we’d say Optik-level hardware (dual-core 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM) is probably a safe bet for a bare minimum. We don’t know what ZTE might be thinking when it comes to the possibility for a stylus with either model, but it did specifically say it was looking to make a “Galaxy Note-type product”.

Beyond these two five-to-seven-inchers, ZTE will also reportedly be working on further hardware refreshes to its Blade and Skate Androids.
