With the vast majority of Android users still waiting for their phones to see official updates to Ice Cream Sandwich, it still seems like it’s too early to start seeing budget-conscious ICS gear on some of the smaller carriers. After all, that’s where you’d expect to find some 600MHz dinosaur running Eclair, let alone modern software. Nevertheless, ICS continues to creep into the mainstream, and it looks like Cricket may soon be getting some Android 4.0 hardware to call its own, in the form of ZTE’s Nova 4.0 V8000.

While the Nova’s specs are far from high-end, they’re definitely quite a few rungs up from the bottom of the ladder. The phone will run a single-core Snapdragon at 1.4GHz, include a gigabyte of RAM, have a four-inch WVGA display, and include a good-sized 1900mAh battery. Also look for an eight-megapixel main camera and four gigabytes of on-board storage.

Pricing and availability has yet to be confirmed (and technically the phone’s future home at Cricket isn’t official, either), but it’s expected to be priced somewhere in the $200-$300 range, off-contract.
