The Xperia Play, announced at MWC, has passed the FCC. It’s not the Verizon version (which is slated for a April release, last we checked), but the European model that has UMTS 900MHz and 2100MHz bands (meaning, this won’t work on AT&T or T-Mobile 3G). As a reminder, the Xperia Play is the first phone to be able to play select Sony PlayStation titles using its PSP Go-like gaming pad, which slides out from beneath the screen. In terms of specs, the Xperia Play packs 1 GHz Scorpion ARMv7 single-core CPU with 400MB of RAM, plus 8GB of external storage.

Along with the typically unflattering device mugshots, the filing brings with it internal photos for the iFixit crowd, as well as the full “manual,” which is little more than a two page brochure.

Interestingly, this is one of the first times we’ve seen such a high profile handset go through the FCC without filing for confidentiality, perhaps a testament to just how much this had been leaked and handled pre-launch.
