It’s been over a month since we got our hands on some high-quality press shots of the HTC Merge on Verizon, and the phone has still yet to land at the carrier. Alltel has been selling its Merge since last month, but we haven’t heard anything come out of Verizon. The Merge is one of those phones that seems to take forever to get to market; we’ve been seeing it pop up here and there since last year. The day for its Verizon launch may nearly have arrived, with a leaked document showing that third-party retailers will have access to the smartphone as of tomorrow.
The fact that the Merge might not even be in Verizon stores when the carrier kicks-off sales would be a fitting end to its troubled pre-launch existence. Would it be LTE or plain EV-DO? Were any carriers seriously interested? Since last August we’ve wondered what would come of the phone.
If this plays out like it seems it will, you’ll finally be able to pick up the QWERTY slider on a major carrier starting tomorrow. The leaked docs don’t mention a price, but we can’t imagine anyone charging an arm and a leg for this mid-range, beleaguered Android. Better late than never, though, right?
