The last time we got an update on HTC’s Wildfire S, a lower-end Android handset we were able to take a look at during the Mobile World Congress, pre-orders were being accepted for the phone in anticipation of a late May release date. There may be a chance for the phone to arrive even earlier than that, as Vodafone in the UK has just added the phone to its site, labeled “coming soon”.
While the Wildfire S may have some hardware specs that don’t measure up to other Android models, we came away with a positive impression of the phone. Despite only packing a 600MHz processor, we found the smartphone to run Gingerbread without too much trouble. Frankly, if it wasn’t for Gingerbread, you might mistake this phone for one released a year ago. Any underpowered stigma aside, the compact model could be just what you’re looking for if you don’t need a huge four-inch screen or plan on running any processor-intensive apps.
Clove has had the phone available for pre-order since last month, but its addition to Vodafone’s site is all the more interesting, coming from a carrier. Vodafone reveals that it will be the exclusive home to two of the Wildfire S color options: gray and purple. While it certainly doesn’t promise anything, the carrier’s announcement that the phone will be here soon has us optimistic that it may end up being less than another two months before the handset is released. You can register with Vodafone now to receive any updates as they arrive.
