Vodafone, one of the premier carriers in the UK has opened pre-orders for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play and Xperia Arc devices today. Availability is expected on April 1st, with a free Deckstand included with the Xperia Play pre-order.
Both devices come with Android’s 2.3 Gingerbread build, and are available free with a 2 year contract. The Xperia Arc requires a minimum £30 per month contract for the free device while the Xperia Play requires a minimum £35 per month contract.
The Xperia Arc is one of the thinnest phones available, measuring 8.7mm at it’s thinnest point, and featuring a large 4.2-inch screen. The camera is 8.1-megapixel and includes a flash. 512MB of internal storage is included with a microSD slot for further expansion. It also features an HDMI port for direct connection to a TV.
The Xperia Play is the first “PlayStation-certified” smartphone, with 400MB internal storage available and includes an 8GB microSD card. It is offered with 6 pre-loaded games (Crash Bandicoot, Fifa 10, Star Battalion, Tetris, Sims 3, and Bruce Lee). With a 4-inch screen, 1GHz CPU, Adreno 205 GPU and gamepad controls, the Play is well-equipped to run the latest Android games.
Featured in a series of gritty commercials, the Xperia Play is the first Android phone to feature a gaming pad. Availability on the US side is expected on Verizon with the launch date not yet announced.
