It’s very clear that Motorola’s Droid Bionic is on its way to finally being available at retail, but there’s been very little in the way of pinning-down just when it will land. The one rumored launch date that’s seem to stuck has been August 4, which showed up once in a leaked screenshot from earlier this month. It’s as good a date to look forward to as any, but we’d really like to see something else backing it up before putting to much faith in it. Well, now there’s some new evidence that looks to reinforce that August 4 date, but how reliable is it?
Since the beginning of this week, Twitter account MDB228 has been posting as if it’s an anthropomorphized Droid Bionic. It’s also posted a lengthy origin story to the Android Central forums, and has been making cryptic tweets ever since. There’s no confirmation yet as to just who’s behind the account, but it has all the hallmarks of a viral marketing campaign.
The account had earlier made an oblique reference to August 4, and today it tweeted “T-Minus 1,166,400″. Convert that figure to seconds, and it comes out to thirteen and a half days. The countdown is set to wrap-up on you guessed it August 4. It would still be nice to see some information like this come from a more reliable channel; just think of this as some food for thought in consideration of the rumored launch.
