A leak out of an internal Verizon database last week had us thinking that we had finally learned the launch name for the HTC Vigor on Verizon, with documents linking the phone’s model number to the name “HTC Rezound”. Admittedly, that’s a bit of an odd name, but it was good to hear of at least something after it looked like the smartphone might not arrive as the Droid Incredible HD as earlier rumored. Does that mark the end of this story, or is there a chance that Rezound might be a red herring as well?
Even now that we’ve heard of Rezound, we continue to see support for the Vigor name. It had looked like it was just a code name for the handset, but could it have amassed enough popularity to attempt to stick around? Verizon now has a page live for HTC Vigor accessories not HTC Rezound accessories. Maybe someone didn’t get the memo, or the page’s content is generated from some old data, but there’s no trace of Rezound here. Still, it’s not like we heard Rezound somewhere else, but straight from Verizon’s system. The fact that we’re still seeing Vigor could just be a remnant of the transition to calling the phone by its new name, or it might represent how we’ll actually see the handset arrive; we’ll be keeping an eye on Verizon for now to see if more compelling evidence shows up for either side.
