Three weeks ago, we learned about plans to start distributing Motorola Droid Bionic software 5.9.902 as an update to some of its testers. Then, just yesterday, word arrived of a larger soak test for a Bionic update; was this still 5.9.902 we were talking about, or might we see something else arrive? Sorry if you were expecting Ice Cream Sandwich, because today Verizon has updated its support pages for the Bionic, revealing the coming 5.9.902 update, and providing us a much more comprehensive list of changes than had been previously available.
What’s now being claimed as part of this release that we didn’t know about before? Battery life has reportedly been improved, as has device stability; a handful of situations that might have locked-up your phone in the past should now be fixed. The ability to receive text messages while in a call sounds like a nice tweak, and your Bionic will now keep you up-to-date when emergency alerts are issued.
Wireless data gets a couple unspecified improvements, and you should see see better performance out of connections you set up over a WiFi hotspot.
Round this out with updates to some of the installed apps, and, though still in maintenance update territory, Bionic software 5.9.902 is starting to look like a solid little update. Knowing Verizon, look for it to arrive in the next week or so.
