A little earlier today, we heard that a soak test was ramping-up for the Motorola Droid X2 and Droid 3 on Verizon, with e-mails going out to owners who had been invited to participate. Now, we get a better sense of what to expect from the new software for the Droid 3, at least, with Verizon updating its support pages for the phone to include the changelog for this new release.
As Droid 3 owners are all-too-aware by now, despite being under a year old, the handset didn’t make the cut for the official list Verizon has published of which phones on its network it expects to see upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich. Updates like the one we’re looking at today will be the extent of official support for the phone, so let’s take a look at what’s changing.
There are a whole bunch of bugfixes packed into this release, tackling problems like unexpected power cycling, crashes when using Bluetooth or HDMI accessories,, and audio distortion with wired headsets. That’s just the start of things, though, with other fixes in store for VZ Navigator 3D City, moving apps to the phone’s SD card, and interacting with videos on Facebook.
Heavy camera users will enjoy improved auto-focus behavior, which Verizon says will manifest as both improved image quality and decreased shutter lag.
With news of the soak test just arriving, don’t look for this update to start going out en masse for at least another week or two.
