Smartphone manufacturers have dozens of new models they’re planning to feature at next week’s Mobile World Congress, and we’re anxiously awaiting the opportunity to check them all out. Getting a first look at new hardware is great, but ultimately you’ll probably be more concerned with how you can actually pick some of this gear up at a retailer or carrier. If you’re a Verizon subscriber, and you’ve been wondering what might be some of the next smartphones scheduled for the network, you’re in luck, as a new leak shows a pair of handsets on the way.
Although there are some dates associated with this information, they seem to refer to internal workshops rather than actual release dates, so for the moment the only things this leak gives us are the names of the phones. One of them may be the next entry in the carrier’s Droid series (unless the Incredible 4G beats it to the punch), the Droid Fighter. We’ve heard of an HTC Fighter before, one that would apparently be coming to Verizon at some point, but thought that the phone had gotten a name-change to Fireball. Could Verizon have vacillated back to the original name, or might this be different hardware altogether?
The other phone mentioned in this leak is the LG Cayman. LG’s been all over the news these past couple days, with half a dozen new Androids revealed. As such, lacking any other info on this Cayman, it’s quite difficult trying to tie any specific hardware to the name. For now, we’ll just have to wait for more info to come out of Verizon before we ID the handset.
