Verizon Wireless has confirmed to Computer World that the Droid Eris, among the first Droid devices on Verizon Wireless, will not be getting an update to Android 2.2 Froyo. The HTC Sense device was upgraded to Android 2.1 and has since been replaced by newer devices in the carrier’s lineup, such as the Motorola Droid X, Morola Droid 2, and the HTC Droid Incredible. Regarding Froyo, the carrier says, “We have other options in Android devices, so this is part of the normal evolution of our portfolio” in talking about the update for the Droid Eris.
While we neither endorse nor recommend it, enterprising Eris users wanting Froyo and the Adobe Flash 10.1 Mobile that the OS update enables have another unofficial option in the hacking community.
