We may among the lucky few in the US who have gotten our hands on an HSPA+ version of Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus, but someday soon the rest of Android fans in the States will have the opportunity to snag the phone for themselves, this time Verizon’s LTE version. We’ve been covering the rumors and leaks surrounding this release in the weeks following the smartphone’s formal announcement. Let’s take a look at some of the latest developments, and see where we are now.

Earlier this week, we heard a rumor that Verizon was planning to open pre-orders for the Galaxy Nexus yesterday, on November 29. If we’re to believe the very prevalent rumors that the phone will arrive on December 8, that didn’t seem like a very controversial day to suggest pre-orders might start. Nevertheless, Tuesday passed with no new opportunity to buy the Nexus arising.

With December 8 closing-in, if it’s really to be the LTE model’s launch date, we should hope to get some kind of official confirmation shortly. Earlier this afternoon, Verizon tweeted about the the ongoing buzz surrounding the phone’s release, inviting readers to sign-up for news updates, but still had no new information to share.

In spite of those let-downs, today does mark the arrival of the first nice press shots of the LTE Galaxy Nexus, showing the Verizon badging we’ve seen in candid shots earlier. We’ll just have to live with that until some new rumors arrive.
