The release of an official Gingerbread update for HTC’s Droid Incredible is starting to remind us of a flickering lightbulb: on, off, and back on again. There was a little scare recently where HTC made it seem that the Incredible was out of the running for Gingerbread altogether, but then we learned that Verizon had just prepared support materials for the coming update. Knowing Verizon, that tipped us off to expect the release to start heading out sometime over the following several days. If you’re wondering why you still haven’t seen anything yet, it’s because the update has apparently been put on ice at the last minute, sent back for another round of testing.
This news comes to us from Verizon’s Droid Incredible forum, posted by an employee of the carrier. He wasn’t able to provide any estimation for how long this additional code-testing might take, nor did he offer any insight into what concerns might have prompted this decision.
At least this time, it’s apparent that the update is still on-track for release, even if it is taking the long way to get there. Verizon says that it will post the details for the scheduled release once a date has been nailed-down; this time, let’s hope it sticks.
