Just as its rival in Magenta did yesterday with the LG Optimus T (the black version, anyway), Big Red is rumored to have priced its Optimus One variant, the LG Vortex, at absolutely free after $100 mail-in rebate. This according to a bit of purported marketing material published by Engadget, although the Android 2.2 Froyo-powered Vortex is still listed as “coming soon;” still, a holiday release is all but assured given that Verizon is actually advertising the handset before its official launch alongside other seasonal highlights.
So now two of the three One carriers are giving it away on contract — T-Mobile’s burgundy and titanium versions remain priced at $30 currently — and Sprint has its Optimus S going for $50 subsidized. Of course Verizon’s Vortex incorporates the Bing search and map integration that some dislike, but otherwise all of the One variants are the same 600MHz CPU-, 3.2-inch HVGA screen-equipped devices that LG has very, very high hopes for.
