Motorola confirmed the coming of Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates for Verizon Droid smartphones, Droid Pro, Droid 2, Droid 2 Global, and Droid X. From all of these only the Droid X saw an actual Gingerbread roll-out with a couple of other smartphone test builds being only leaked or pushed back and forth.
Rumor has it that Verizon is rejecting all Motorola-made Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates for all Droid smartphones. According to Droid-life, Verizon has sent the builds back to Motorola in order to fix all the bugs which were affecting the Droid X, now running Gingerbread — and as you remember, there were even some bricked smartphones involved.
Give the time it takes to put together a new build after ironing out the issues and the carrier testing period after that, you’d better not expect your Gingerbread update for your Droid anytime soon. It might take weeks but it might also take months. We’ll see how well and how fast Motorola can patch things.
