While we flinch at the thought of the HTC Thunderbolt going for $300 even with a contract, it’s comforting to see that there are still great smartphone deals out there, especially if you’re not gung-ho about needing the latest hardware. The LG Optimus One family of phones has been a huge success considering the sheer number of phones sold, even with an aging 600MHz processor. U.S. Cellular has just announced what may be the best deal ever on these handsets, letting you pick up as many as six of its Optimus U phones for just thirty dollars.
The offer is buy-one-get-five-free, and that one phone can either be an Optimus U, or the $100 Samsung Mesmerize; all the free phones are constrained to being Optimus Us. You can order a total of five phones – four of them free – online, but if you want all six, you’ll need to visit a U.S. Cellular brick-and-mortar location.
Sure, this offer sounds like a bit much unless you’ve got a big family and want to upgrade them all to a decent, affordable Android model. Be honest, though: there’s something awesomely excessive about the thought of keeping all those lines for yourself. “I’m sorry I missed you; you called me on my Friday phone. You’ll need to use my Monday number today.”
