If you’re rocking an Android on Sprint, there may be a new update headed your way. The carrier posted information today regarding updates becoming available for both the HTC EVO 4G and the new Motorola Photon 4G.
The EVO 4G’s update will bring the smartphone to system software 4.53.651.1. This one’s going to be a bugfix update, containing a handful of fixes. There may not be any really critical problems being corrected, but some of the glitches look like they could be pretty annoying to run into. The software will fix issues with SMS transmission when you’re out of storage space. A couple image-related fixes will stop Picasa from over-cropping and improve image transfers over Bluetooth. Alphabetical contact sorting should no work fine, and the phone’s voice-recognition abilities will get a boost.
The Photon 4G’s update also consists of bugfixes. Software 4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_5 should give the Photon some improved general system stability, with less lag and freeze-ups. Sprint Visual Voicemail will now correctly work with monaural Bluetooth headsets, and an odd-sounding bug where voice calls would start with the Photon muted by default has been quashed.
Both updates are going out now, and should arrive to users in stages. For the EVO 4G, at least, Sprint says it expects to hit everyone in about two weeks.
