The contents of a purported internal Best Buy news posting were leaked last week, claiming that this week we’d see the OTA arrivals of Ice Cream Sandwich updates for a pair of smartphones on Verizon. First, the Motorola Droid RAZR’s update was supposed to start going out yesterday, followed by the HTC Rezound’s tomorrow. We noted yesterday that the RAZR rumors seemed to be unfounded, with no new software arriving and the company itself tweeting that it would have more info on the phone’s upgrade plans at a later date. That also started getting us concerned that we wouldn’t likely see the Rezound’s update hit on Friday. Today, however, a new leak out of Best Buy discusses the absence of the RAZR’s update, as well as reiterates that the Rezound’s is still on-schedule for tomorrow.
The updated Best Buy employee news posting references the failure of the RAZR’s update to arrive as expected. While it advises checking back for future news, it doesn’t attempt to explain just what happen. We had been concerned that either the entire initial leak missed the mark, or that maybe Verizon had rescheduled both these updates for later, but whatever they case actually is, Best Buy seems to think that the Rezound’s will still be going out tomorrow. Will things go to plan this time, or can we expect another last-minute delay? We’ll be finding out shortly enough.
