If it isn’t one thing… HTC released an update for the EVO 4G earlier this month, the primary purpose of which was to repair damage that had been done to the phone following the previous update, breaking Netflix compatibility. Well, consider that another trade-off, since it looks now like that update went and broke a few things of its own.
EVO 4G users are reporting issues with voice-to-text and the smartphone’s digital compass, post-update. Users who have contacted HTC directly have received notice that the company is aware of the issues, and is looking into how to correct them, likely with yet another OTA update. The voice-to-text problem may be due to microphone sensitivity settings, and seems impacted by third-party VTT apps from the Android Market. The digital compass, for users experiencing this problem, just flat-out stops working, no longer reporting heading data to the phone.
There’s no estimate yet as to how long it will take to patch these bugs. We’ve got our fingers double-super-crossed that this chain stops here, and that the next update fixes existing problems without introducing any new ones of its own.
