Unofficial Verizon Xperia Play Unlock Coming Tomorrow?

Sony Ericsson’s release of unlockable bootloaders for its Xperia Androids, along with the website to generate unlock codes, is a fantastic resource for SE users who are interested in tinkering with their smartphones, experimenting with custom ROMs. One slight hitch with the service comes up when trying to unlock a CDMA phone. While you can unlock the GSM Xperia Play without issue, the Verizon edition has been thus far unlockable. We don’t know if there will ever be an official solution, but it looks like an independent hack may be right around the corner, enabling you to unlock CDMA Xperia Plays on Verizon.

Xperia Play users over on the XDA-Developers forums have been trying to wrap their heads around how to generate valid unlock codes for the CDMA Play. It now appears that user ashergray has cracked the code, and is now providing unlock instructions for users who share their MEID with him. For the moment, he’s keeping the method close to his chest, but has posted that he’ll reveal his secret tomorrow.

Already, a number of readers of that thread claim that they’ve been able to unlock (and subsequently root) their Xperia Plays by using ashergray’s info. We can’t wait to see what he ends up releasing tomorrow.
