Gingerbread has been trickling out for users of HTC’s Desire Z for the past couple weeks. HTC had earlier said that the code would be available by the end of June, but better late than never, we suppose. Then we heard that HTC expected to start sending it out in mid-July, with plans to wrap things up by the end of the month. Continental Europe certainly saw its Desire Z Gingerbread update, with initial reports coming out of Germany. Now it looks like it’s finally time for Desire Z owners in the UK to get a go at it themselves.
As of now, only Desire Zs without carrier branding are getting the OTA update. If you haven’t yet, you should be getting a notification for your Android 2.3.3 download shortly. This follows the release last week of Gingerbread for the Desire Z in the States: HTC’s G2 on T-Mobile.
We don’t have any word on when the rest of Desire Z owners in the UK might see the update arrive. You can try checking with your carrier, or just take matters into your own hands and hook your smartphone up with some CM7 or the Gingerbread-based ROM of your choice.
